Last December, Thailand's Water Festival (Songkran) was included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This year, according to the Thai media, the Thai government will make a big move, allocating 100 million baht to organize the Water Festival in April as a "world-class water festival".
From 1 to 21 April, the festival will last for 21 days, making it the longest water festival in history!
The fact that there will be a 21-day Super Songkran event does not mean that there will be 21 days of holidays. This year, there are five days of legal breaks for Songkran, from 12 to 16 April.
Every year on Songkran, Thailand's famous tourist areas such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai organise grand water-splashing carnivals.
