Malaysian passport to be valid for 10 years soon!

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, the Minister of Home Affairs, stated that the Immigration Department is currently fine-tuning the specific details of extending the validity period of Malaysian passports from 5 years to 10 years, and an announcement will be made soon.

He mentioned that extending the passport validity will offer more options to Malaysians who frequently travel abroad.

"A passport with a 5-year validity often gets filled with many stamps. For this group (those who are often abroad), if given the option of a 10-year passport, they would likely accept it, but they would also need to pay a higher fee because it has more pages.

"We are in the final stages of fine-tuning... and it will be implemented soon."

Additionally, Saifuddin said the Immigration Department is committed to maintaining the speed of passport issuance, ensuring it remains a 60-minute process, and guaranteeing that security features are always at their best.

He also mentioned that according to the 2024 global passport strength rankings released by passportindex.org, the Malaysian passport is currently ranked 11th among the world's strongest passports.

Extending passport validity to 10 years is beneficial for frequent travellers and Malaysian business people abroad.
