Things To Stop You From Losing Your Mind During The Movement Control Order

2020 / 03 / 25 2197

Written by Hanlibubu

Since the rise of the outbreak of covid-19 in Malaysia, our Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has declared the implementation of “Movement Control Order” throughout the country starting from March 18th to 31st March 2020 and announced extend of Movement Control Order for another 14 days on 25th March.

With all shopping malls closed along with restaurants and bars, a trip to the supermarket is indeed the only stimulating activity that remains for everyone. But perhaps the two weeks' isolation could allow us to try something new or get some things done around the house that we have been putting off for too long.

Ever since then, hashtags such as #stayathome, #dudukrumah, #stayhomechallenge, #social distancing, and #kitajagakita has been trending in Malaysia.

Here are some ideas to stop you from losing your mind over another 14 days.

1. Virtual Fitness: Time to Get That Ass You Have Been Craving For

We often hear ourselves complaining about how busy we were, how tired we were after work, and how lazy we were to hit the gym. Well, the truth is COVID-19 is giving us the gift of time for self-reflection and forcing us to adapt to a different daily routine we that we are used to do. It is the best time for you and I to put on that gym wear and lift the weights. So get up in the early morning, have a glass of water, and give yourself at least 10-15 minutes to do some stretching, running, weights, or even meditation.

If you are a beginner, virtual fitness is the thing for you. You can always google for various free workout videos and follow your virtual instructor that you like and trust. There are plenty of workout videos that suits you on YouTube, App Stores, and all sports websites. Be consistent and committed to doing it every for the next 14 days and you will be amazed by the result!

2. #WorkFromHome The Right Way

To curb the spread of Covid-19, employees are forced to work from home and many are trying to acclimate to a work-from-home lifestyle. While we are forced to work remotely, with video chats, conference calls, VPN networks, and wireless Internet, we can always stay connected as though we were sitting in our office, rather than at home.

The best advice I can give is to get up, get a shower, and get out of your pajamas. Put on your blazer and find the perfect backdrop to do your conference call. Despite this quarantine time, we still want to remain our professionalism. Oh, and don’t be late! This is not a holiday break and you have no excuse for it.

However, not having a well-equipped network and a home office space can cause a temporary decrease in productivity. In order to be productive, a good internet connection is mandatory. The best solution for top-notch connectivity?

Switch to SWITCH: Roaming Man's New Wifi On the Go Package is offering “Pocket Wifi 30GB 1 Month Trial Package” to those who need the strongest data in town.

3. Meditate: Express Gratitude

The prospect of serious illness reminds us to be thankful for our health and other blessings. Seeing others struggle with illness can inspire us to take better care of our bodies and appreciate more and judge less. Pause a while to give thanks for the various aspects of life with which you are blessed (for example, the opportunity to spend more time at home with your family during the pandemic).

To get you started, write down 5 things you are grateful for the day. Acknowledge and write down what you are grateful for is a great way to practice mindfulness. Take the time to text, voice messages, or video chat with a loved one and offer them an emotional connection, which is as important for our health as exercise and diet.

Lastly, ask yourself these question: What will you take away from this experience? How can the lessons of COVID-19 mark a positive turning point for you?

4. Try Out New Recipes With Family

Given our Malaysian’s high expectations for food, is it possible to keep our meals interesting every day? In times of food scarcity and uncertainty, we have to make do with what we have. There are plenty of websites and YouTube video tutorials that suggest yummy food recipes tips and inspiration.

If possible, try to make something that you have never tasted before. Pick a day or two and involve the whole family in making huge batches of different dishes. It helps lessen anxiety when you are enjoying your time with your loved ones and yes, you will have good food to eat, too!

5. Redecorate and Reorganize Your House

As the coronavirus pandemic forces many of us to work from home, this transition may require you to maximize the space that you have to create an environment that you can happily spend time in.

Well, there is no better opportunity than the current time! So, try to change the overall arrangements of your house to give it a completely different feeling. Don’t forget to clean and disinfect the surfaces just in case. A nice little project to do up your house could be the ideal solution to keep your minds and hands busy, maybe even involving your children and family together in this activity.

Take Note: As the cornerstone of food storage, you should always deep clean your refrigerator regularly. What better time to do so than when you are stuck at home with few distractions?

6. Entertainment: Netflix Party

While the Corona Virus pandemic might have some of us unemployed (especially the entertainment industry), we can utilize this time to enhance our knowledge and get inspiration from Netflix series. It has a cure for our boredom with some binge-worthy shows while we weather the storm. Here are a few you may want to add to your list if you haven't already.

1. Pandemic

2. The Office

3. Crush landing On You

4. The Irishman

5. Kim’s Convenience

6. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

7. Contagion

Why watch shows alone when we can be #AloneTogether? If you haven’t already know, there is an extension on Google Chrome called Netflix party. On this extension you can watch shows and movies with your friends at the same time and there is a chat where you can talk live with your friends! Just share the URL with friends to join the Netflix party.
